Derpy Hooves: Pony 100

Well here she is guys, pony number 100, a walnut Derpy Hooves figurine inspired by, if not exactly based on Lauren Faust's classic sketch. I wanted her to show the same lordosis, although I exaggerated it somewhat, with the dangling front feet and trailing hind legs. The whole pose has been adapted for woodwork and because my ponies tend away from the cartoony, but you should be able to spot the resemblance.

I've got to say, I like this piece. I've done three pieces in the past three weeks that have all been, for me, possible favorites. Chrysalis is one, and a Vinyl Scratch which I've decided not to upload until later, since my gallery was pretty packed this week in any case, and this one. I really do like how she turned out.Her hind legs could do with a touch-up And I would have liked just a little more time to work on the back, but on the whole she's what I wanted.
It'll sound weird, I know, but I really like the belly on this one. The long curvature of the body brings it into focus, and I had fun working on it; I rarely bother very much with bellies on most ponies. The front hooves were also buckets of fun, and I like how the cutie mark looks when done in silver leaf rather than gray paint. Mostly, though the fun was in doing such a different pose, that curve really was interesting and fun.
The stand, on the other hand, is a knock up job, and it shows. I had tested out several different ways of mounting this figurine, but, unfortunately, most brought the support poles to the attention. When I finally decided to do it this way I was already ridiculously low on time, so I had to use the only pieces on hand of appropriate size, which, unfortunately were wet with dew (as in yes, I was starting the stand at just-before-dawn this morning). The wet wood splintered and fuzzed under the tools, and I only had time to give it a once over with a sander, so it's still a bit fuzzy in many places.
Well, guys, these first 100 ponies have ben absolutely fantastic! I'm looking forward to the rest of the ponies on my list, plus some other fun projects I have planned! 100 ponies in 359 days. Not too shabby, even if I have to say it myself. And now, guys, I've been awake for over 26 hours straight finishing Luna and Derpy, and I've dozed off and jerked awake several times while typing this, so I'm going to go upload their WIP and expanded galleries at My Little Woodcraft and take a nap before my sister's ballet recital. The giveaway contest is officially closed, but if you hop over to my journal and enter in the next couple of hours while I'm asleep I'll probably not care.
