Derpy in Walnut: Dizzy Doo by xofox Derpy in Walnut: Dizzy Doo by xofox
Oh, for the fun old days when I carved wings folded in, did manes in embroidery thread, posed legs at silly positions and did it all without any ebony whatsoever, at all, in any way ever, ever, and amen.

This walnut Derpy Hooves for :iconspiritofthwwolf: has been a very nice break. I got to enjoy doing the mismatched feet that I did last spring and summer, and I made the choice to fold in her wings like I haven't done in, oh jeebies, the last time I can remember would be that pair I did back in last April, over ten months I guess. The thread mane was more fun than I remembered. :D
The pose was supposed to convey a dizzy stumbling back; I think it only really succeeded in looking like a prancing walk, but I'll take it nonetheless. All in all, I'll take her.

You can find a short WIP gallery and an expanded gallery offsite.

Derpy Hooves and My Little Pony belong to Hasbro.

Once again, I am deeply indebted to EqD for a place in one of their compilations. Thanks, guys.

So cute, I like how you made the wings but I think they need a bit more of... Uhm... Not sure about the word, they lack the 3d effect a bit, or maybe it's just the picture :)

Nah, they're pretty flat, even in person. They look very much like they are part of and fused to the body (which they are of course, but there are ways to make them stand out more.)

I could have rounded out the outside feathers more and undercut the wing anywhere that it touched the body for a start. Maybe tried a change in body shape to help, but I'd have to fiddle around with that first before I'm sure it would work.

In other news, how ya been?

The usual... You know, depressed and lonely. But at least I'm sleeping now.

I find it very cute, even if its beautifully carved wood.

She's very cute, and I like the pose. It didn't quite give me that "dizzy stumbling back" vibe right away, but I think that's just because she's leaning forward a little too much for it; once I read the description, it became what I'm naturally seeing when I look at her. :)

Walnut fits Derpy, too, I think.

Yeah, her neck isn't pulled back and her jaw is too parallel to the ground to really pull it off.
