The second of two pieces for Dream Cloud is going to be my last OC pony for a while. Her pose was modeled in general on Derpy: Post Haste with some moderate adjustments to head and foreleg positioning. Dream Cloud is a sleep therapist by profession, hence the cutie mark, so my posing choices were flight or napping, and my napping designs are still primitive at best. The actual character is a bright blue, so I tried out a lighter colored block of walnut than usual for my blue ponies. I have mixed feelings about the result. On one hand, it certainly fits the brightness of the character, but the wood contains an unusually large amount of yellow, which doesn't convey the true color very well. The mane and tail are, well, they're acceptable, given the difficulty of "cotton candy" style manes, but I'm still a bit disappointed by them. Oh well, my next pony (an ebony Luna) will be my first essay into carved wooden manes, so, depending on difficulty and results, we might start seeing some of that for the more outlandish manes.

First of all, such an amazing job! I love the look of it and just the overall craftsmanship! Although I have to say a little more color would be nice, and a little extra detail would have gone a long way! But, nevertheless I still think this is an amazing piece! I also am rather dear about her mane. It just fits the wood look so gracefully and beautifully! The cutie mark is also great! I love how you put so much effort into this piece and i hope to see more of your works! Overall, an amazing piece! Truly worth your time and effort!
Nice woodworking skills. It needs a little more colour, but besides that, it's great! Exellent, intricate details, yarn mane, nice job! I believe if Rarity could see this, she would be greatly pleased by the skill put into this. I find this piece of art unique, chique, and magnifique as Rarity would say. I cannot wait to see your carving of Princess Luna. I hope you put some more color into your ebony carving of everyone's favorite princess of the night. Continue on your woodcarving skills, and party on, my fellow pony lover. Great job. with love and tolerance, PegasisNova
For my exotics I generally use woodcraft.com. It's slightly more expensive, but it's very well cured (although my ebony is cracking ) I also have a woodworking friend who slips me scraps sometimes, although I don't do that too much these days since i use so much wood. People also just sometimes give me interesting wood to play with, and that's always fun. OWL also does good stock. But i actually just got this walnut from my local hardware store. It's a great family business that carries a fantastic stock variety. Hickory, walnut, mesquite, ash, maple, as well as the more normal softwoods, oak and redwoods. All well cured, well stored, well priced. Great hardware store. And that is my wordy and rambly answer.
