Panda Minifigure in Holly Wood

This figurine is part of a series of miniatures for charity, and you can buy it here. All proceeds will go to the Ummu Salama school in Iringa, Tanzania.

No one would have believed, in the first years of the twenty first century...that it was time for the daily mini. Todays piece was suggested by ; thanks! (Also it's slightly flattering what some of you believe I can do in my 2 hour MOTD deadline. )

I had considered holding off this guy and running a future minifig charity for the World Wildlife Fund, but I suppose I can always duplicate it later; I saved the design. He's done in holly, which I've always thought was easily one of the most beautiful woods. It's true that there is a lot to be said for fun grains, undercolors, etc. etc. But holly is just so white. I mean, bloodwood is red, yellowheart is yellow, purpleheart is purple, ebony is black, and holly is white, like paper it is. (Also one of my most expensive. I'm actually trying to decide if I could make a Celestia or Marigold Heavenly Nostrils small enough to do as a mini because it would save me about forty or fifty bucks opposed to a full sized one.) I always enjoy working with it, and although I had real reservations about staining a wood I like, I enjoyed the contrast in the end. I also learned that, I mean I know pandas are bears, but they are also much more bear shaped than I usually think of them. Designs are fun to learn from.
