Pinkie Pie Teething Toy in Maple

Wow; it has been a wildly, wildly busy past day and a half. In the last 29 hours I have made 7 necklaces (out of 15 total for a tomorrow deadline), one pony with props, cut out the silhouette for Berilla the elephant, glued the wood for another rocking pony, and did this.

This being a teething toy, which I am thrilled about. From the get go, I've always wanted to be a toymaker rather than a sculptor, so making something sure to get played with is awesome.
She's designed to stand up to the rigors of childhood, and with no sharp points whatsoever. And let me tell you, guys, I thought that would be easy, but it turns out ponies have a lot of pokey points. Excluding unicorns entirely we've got that upper snoot, the ears, tips of tails, hooves, the curly-q's in manes, etc. etc. Needless to say, I had to stray a little from the basic pony design, but hopefully she is still recognizably Pinkie Pie. (She even has eyes! I did eyes, guys, what more do you want from me?! [and nobody say anything snarky like "good eyes" because that ain't happenin'.])

The maple is finished in pistachio oil for that special yummy chewableness, and when I accidentally pushed it off the workbench about six times in a row it got nothing worse than a few dents from the concrete. Oh, she's breakable, but I think it would take a little effort to do it.

This is just a practice run for a commissioned teether pony so that I could work on a strong design before shipping it off to a babby. I think my next run will be in cherry wood for the better color, although, I dunno. Cherry generally tastes worse than maple, and I had a lot of trouble with scorching on this one, and cherry is even worse.
