Roseluck Woodwork

I've been doing quite a few posed ponies recently, and I'm in the middle of another quite complicated pony and two fairly complex props to go with some others. So it was a wonderful break to do this Roseluck in the old style, with all four feet on the ground and a nice wood to work with. In this case, it was sycamore, which has a lovely grain to it. Alas, it was a bit soft and became rough around the cutie mark despite some attempts to smooth it with steel wool. Still, a very nice wood to work. (And I say this as someone who is currently taking a break from working with bloodwood. The bleeding stuff already broke one of my saw blades, although I almost expected that it would. I'm working with a piece that's too thick for the machine . )
The cutie mark was fun. I don't often have to work as hard to get one to come out. It's still not perfect, but with varying levels of engraving and embossing and different shades of paint I feel that it's not too bad for a painting a 1/4 inch square.
I also had a great time with the mane (although the two colors don't contrast as nicely in the pictures as they do in real life.) Roseluck has a very pretty color scheme.
Oh, and the photoshoot. I thought "I really must go find some flowers." But it's been a dry decade here and all I could find that was green and flowering were tiny little wildflower shrubs that sprang up after some rain recently. (Yay! Rain!)
