Skoll Skogr: Norse Wolf Wooden Sword

Description

So a while back I made my younger brother a quick and simple spear that I'm almost embarrassed of, it was made so hastily, and, indeed, never made it further than my scrapbook. Most things I seem to make for him are rush jobs done because of some party or event or as a way to kill time with him, and eight year olds aren't known for their patience. This time I'm actually pretty pleased with the results because I took a decent amount of time to work on it.
My workshop for the past few days has been something like this. "I'll go work on Luna!" says I, "And on this one I shall take my time and make sure pieces are properly glued and pretty, and this pony will be magnificent." Which means that I spend half an hour shaping a single piece, glue it on and then look around and go, h-uh, what should I do for the next 24 hours? And the answer was this sword to follow that spear, and which will be followed by a shield soon, since the glue on the other half of Luna's mane is drying today.
Benjamin wanted a wolf theme, and I thought a nice Nordic sword could be fun, since he decided on a round, buckler like shield design. It's influenced strongly by Theoden's sword from the LOTR movies, and is 100% oak. It's about 30" long, making it a nice one handed sword for me, or a hand and-a-half for Benjamin, who should be able to use it with the shield.

The name is still only a place holder, but for now it's Sköll Skógr, Sköll being the Norse wolf that chases the moon, and skógr meaning a wood or forest. I have some Tolkein focused Wheaties working on a better name, though.

Wow, that looks freaking awesome! Amazing job hands down! I really like wolfs head design, it really is a great job. Did you try swinging it around to see if it will break from too much tension? You know how children are, they will not hesitate to swing it with full force. The shield will make a great addison to this peace.
