Fallout Vault Boy Bobblehead: Unarmed

Description

Whew boy do I ever feel taken down a peg.
Last week when a conversation arose relating to these I honestly thought that I wouldn't have any trouble making one. (In fact, I believe the claim I made was "a couple" by week's end.) And maybe if I had some familiarity with the process then I could have backed that up. If I knew how to use a mold without destroying it or how to sculpt clay for a quicker easier original model then that might have been true. However, knowing how to do something and having the experience to do it right are so very very different. For instance, I discovered that resins are full of air bubbles such that if your plan is to cast a basic shape and then carve away the details then you'll hit pockets of material that look like swiss cheese. Or that even if you layer on like fifty layers of latex over your casting dummy you should still check for leaks before pouring in your plastic if you don't want to be scraping it off the cabinets. And certainly that the final product won't look exactly like the mold, no matter how much you want it to.
I also wish that I had taken some liberties and not recreated the original, slightly leaning pose. It looks good in the game; in real life, just goofy.

So anyway, late and abysmally beneath my hopes, this is the unarmed bobblehead. Congratulations, you get a permanent +10 to your unarmed. The inscription around the base reads When words fail, there's always fists. the conjugation of which has been peeving me all. weekend. long. It's the game accurate description, and it works if you're conjugating is/are towards always, but the sentence reads like it should be towards fists. It's killin' me Bethesda!
Also, the one day, the one day this week that it hasn't been overcast and gloomy, and it's the day I'm taking Fallout photos. C'mon. I mean, I live much more in the New Vegas area than the capital, but still.

See a how-not-to-do-it WIP here and some more angles and close ups of the finished bobblehead here.

Fallout and items belong to Bethesda.

Looks cool. I love the game series and have the collectors edition along with the bobble head. The concept art book is really awesome. Great job.
